Lost with the lights on

Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are H. L. Hunt, a few other Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid

Because this is what the libertarian wing of the Republican party has been pushing for in recent years, with much of the mainstream taking action against labor laws and unemployment aid as well. Not to mention George Bush’s push to privatize social security, effectively setting it up to be eliminated. The Republican party has become what Eisenhower feared, this quote illustrates how much the political debates have changed in one lifetime.
